Buckingham — the village had many different names before the present one was chosen. Most of the earliest names were those of the landlords of the village tavern which was established in 1752. The current name took hold when a post office was established in 1872.

Forest Grove — listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was originally known as Forestville. The name was changed to Forest Grove when a post office was established in 1877. The name was probably chosen for the wooded groves which surrounded the village. The edges of the village are well-defined making it an excellent example of a small, rural village.

Lahaska — the site of the Buckingham Friends Meeting which is the oldest place of worship in the township. The meeting was founded in 1701 and the first log structure was built between 1705 and 1708. The present meeting house was built in 1758.

Pineville — the village was first name “The Pines” because of four pine trees which once grew along the side of an old schoolhouse. Erected in 1768, the school was leased for one peppercorn a year. Pineville enjoyed a long history of providing goods and services to meet the needs of the surrounding community.
